📖 Overview
eBay releases every year a new report, announcing what were the most popular articles of the year. For the year 2018, our agency made a website with 3D scenes to illustrate those articles. I was tasked with deciding which 3D models should be made, what they should look like, and how they would be arranged.
I also worked on the texture of the 3D models and the concept and implementing colliders in the website, which would determine when the text gets displayed. Since the text should not appear on top of the 3D models, a raycaster detects if there’s a collider in front of it or not, to determine if the text should be visible.
🔥 Challenges
For the 3D concept part of this project, I was not used to working with this type of Look & Feel, which was created by another Art Director of our agency. I did my best to understand his vision and implement it.
Implementing the colliders was also challenging as it is a very time-consuming process, and it's also a new method that we hadn't tested before.
The initial concept was to make them small and add them in very few places. I found that this approach has quite a lot of flaws since it was very challenging to know where to go in the scene to make them appear (there's no visual indicator that hints where to go in the scene to make the text appear). I therefore went for the opposite approach, to make it visible as often as possible, without having it overlapping with the 3D objects.
